things of the day

Breakfast this morning included a grapefruit from one of my favorite editors. Its flesh was as red as a blood orange, and it may've been the sweetest grapefruit I've ever eaten.

Via Whirled of Kelly, Walt Kelly on the origin of "Deck Us All With Boston Charlie."

Via Richard Bensam, http://apelad.blogspot.com/2009/12/laugh-out-loud-cats-1300.html. I should learn "Big Rock Candy Mountain" on the uke.

Via Sojourners,  Tell Congress to create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency. They say,
The Bible commends “those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice” (Psalm 112:5), and condemns those who oppress the poor and needy for their own gain (Ezekiel 18:10-13).
That "lend" means "share," not "lend at interest."

Via Health Justice,
PNHP and Dr. Margaret Flowers are asking you to help push Sen. Sanders' amendment for single payer forward for a vote on the floor of the Senate.  They need a massive outpouring of faxes and phone calls to the office of Harry Reid, who is the key to getting a vote on Sen. Sanders' amendment.  Click here to send your fax now to your Senators and to Sen. Reid urging a vote on SA 2837, the Sanders single payer amendment.
