Emma laughed when she saw my comment about "Whitey on the Moon"—I am awfully obsessed with the fact that class trumps race in the USA. I laughed, too. You have to pity people who can't laugh at their own quirks.
But, thinking about "Whitey on the Moon" (which I do adore!), I realized two things:
1. It's easier to unite people if you give them a surface understanding of the problem.
2. Martin Luther King's thoughts on poverty would be better known if he'd sung them.
Now I'm trying to imagine the Birmingham Jail Blues and the Beyond Vietnam Stomp.
