The problem with the Segway was not that it didn't work, but that there was no point to it. It's not easier to ride- preschoolers can master the traditional scooter. Why pay $8,000 for an electric scooter whose performance can be matched by a $200 scooter?The Bloom Box, if it survives its field trials, is actually an improvement, not merely quirkily different. The only question (again, if it proves out) is whether Bloom can establish a market before GE reverse engineers it and undersells him.
