Detroit Mayor Bing emphasizes need to shrink city

Detroit Mayor Bing emphasizes need to shrink city | | The Detroit News: "Mayor Dave Bing said Wednesday he 'absolutely' intends to relocate residents from desolate neighborhoods and is bracing for inevitable legal challenges when he unveils his downsizing plan."

(Thanks, Jeff!)

  1. They've been talking about doing the same thing in Flint for awhile. I suspect they'll wait and see how it works out for Detroit first, though.

  2. I'm stunned. Though it has nothing to do with science, technology, or the future, this is far and away the most science fictional idea I've heard in many months.

  3. It isn't really stunning if you consider how much population Detroit has lost in the last twenty years or so. Some, fairly large, bits of the city look like they've been bombed.

Mind you, I think if they try to force out people who don't want to move, they're going to get met at the door with shotguns or worse.
