Sammy Davis Jr. should've had a cowboy show

  1. Thanks to a local station that carries nothing but vintage TV programming, a few weeks ago I managed to see an old episode of Wild, Wild West in which Sammy Davis Jr. guest-starred...No gunplay on his part, though... he was a sort of horse-whisperer type...

  2. Ah, one of my favorite shows. Can't remember if I ever saw the episode, though.

  3. This idea needs to be filed alongside Sammy and Elvis Presley costarring in The Defiant Ones -- as they both wanted to do -- under "things that never happened because they would have been too awesome."

And honestly, given the historical role of black cowboys, what the hell keeps more black cowboy films from being made even today? Mind you, I speak from a position of bias in that Blazing Saddles is my single favorite movie of all time. In some respects it's still the most historically accurate western I've seen…!

  4. RAB, I fear Will Smith's Wild, Wild West hurt black cowboy movies, but, yeah, it should happen. And it should be something much more like Sergio Leone than steampunk.
