Dear Social Justice Warriors who cite Ruby Payne

Social Justice Warriors: Do Not Engage: Dear Social Justice Warriors who cite Ruby Payne

  1. Obviously, Payne has not been debunked in 2005 as some people thought. Payne makes several interesting and true to life points about families who live in poverty. She must be on the right track about strategies to effectively educate students who live in poverty because school districts across the United States are still seeking her to work with their staff. Is she so far off the mark in her beliefs or is this about the money that she makes in an effort to educate others.

    1. I love the "obvious" and the "true" and the "right track".

Yes, people are paying her to talk because they think her analysis is accurate. People paid phrenologists to talk because they thought their analysis was accurate, too.

I'm not questioning Payne's sincerity. I'm only questioning her approach. She says, for example, “Many individuals stay in poverty because they don’t know there is a choice”. I prefer Martin Luther King's approach; he said, "I am now convinced that the simplest solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income."
